Why the heck are we making soap anyway?!
Saratoga Suds started over 40 years ago when Mary Jane Pelzer, the owner of Saratoga Suds, began making soap in her kitchen. She had watched her mother and grandmother make soap for years, and she wanted to try putting her own special touches on it. Being the creative person she is, she began creating all kinds of different colors and scents and shapes and sizes. Then Mary Jane had the brilliant idea - I should sell this stuff! And the rest - as they say - is history!
Mary Jane continues to make soap the way her mother and grandmother used to make it - in small batches by hand, carefully measuring out all the ingredients and experimenting from time to time with different things (for instance, adding sand to provide some scrubbing action to True Grit or bits of loofah ground up in Rub a Dub Scrub).
